Golfers! How to avoid “The Slide”…
Keep your hips and knees healthy while improving your distance and consistency!
“The Slide” is not a new dance move, it’s a golf move done by over one-third of amateurs, and one of the leading causes of hip and knee pain in golf.
When the lead leg moves forward (beyond the front ankle at address), it puts unwanted force on the hip and knee joints, as well as the soft tissues on the side of the hip. You also lose power and speed on the downswing and are forced to compensate elsewhere. This leads to less distance, less consistency, and eventually pain.
The good news is that you can avoid the slide by ensuring that you have the necessary mobility -> lead hip internal rotation and trunk rotation, and the necessary stability -> lateral glutes and core strength and balance!
If you get a TPI golf assessment at Easthill Physiotherapy Clinic, you can improve your game and your longevity without having to make conscious swing changes. We will go through a full-body movement screen to identify any areas of limited mobility or stability that may be affecting your golf game. We will also look at your swing to look for “the slide” and 15 other common swing characteristics. Finally, you will be given a simple, personalized plan for improving the areas most important to you.
