Vernon Physiotherapy Clinic Shares the Art of Treatment
Vernon, B.C., and May 11, 2016 – When you step into Vernon’s Easthill Physiotherapy and Acupuncture Clinic, you may think you have wandered into the local art gallery by mistake. The locally owned clinic is doing more than just treating the body – it is also tending to the souls of its patients through art.
Clinic owner and physiotherapist Judy Fullerton is partnering with long-time Vernon artist Angelika Jaeger (known as AJ) to showcase her artwork in the clinic. The 110 year-old, 3200-square foot heritage home on 26th street was originally the United Church manse for the town and provides a unique canvas for Jaeger’s art, which now lines the hallways and treatment rooms of the distinctive house. “I had seen AJ’s work and I kept thinking about how fantastic her pieces would look in our clinic,” said Fullerton, who loves having a creative space to share with their patients. “We discussed the idea and we both loved it so we made it happen.”
The two worked together to select artwork that suited the character and space of the building, completely transforming the clinic with color and inspiration from Jaeger’s portfolio. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Fullerton. “Our clients love the warm energy that the artwork brings to their treatment rooms and everyone comments on how spectacular and creative her work is. It has been an amazing addition to the clinic.”
Jaeger is a passionate spokesperson for art and artists in the Okanagan and works with a variety of different mediums. The display in the clinic features a colorful collection of mixed media acrylic pieces. She says the pieces are created from a conceptual perspective and meant to invite thought and discussion, which sparks the brain and helps to activate this important muscle.
“I felt that my work meshed well with Judy’s whole body approach to treatment,” said Jaeger. “Part of her approach is purely physical but part also feeds the soul. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my work in such a welcoming and positive setting.”
Over the past 12 years Fullerton has grown Easthill Physiotherapy from a small strip mall storefront to its current location that now employs 14 people, including physiotherapists, massage therapists and a clinical counselor. The clinic also offers a variety of acupuncture techniques, and focuses on manual hands-on treatment.
Jaeger’s art will be on display at Easthill indefinitely. Those interested in viewing the artwork are welcome to drop by or may call to inquire about the best time to visit when the treatment rooms are unoccupied.
