Neck & Cervical Spine Conditions

It's more than just a pain in the neck.

Is it stress or is it something else? Though stress and stressful situations can cause neck pain, there are also several other conditions and injuries that will cause neck pain, discomfort, and loss of motion range.

Overview graphic of the human body front and back showing highlight the cervical spine and neck area in red.Neck pain can be caused by damage, trauma, or injury to the joints, muscles and nerves of the cervical spine. Whiplash, trauma, overuse, poor posture, or repetitive motions or positions are usually the culprits behind neck pain. However, cervical spine dysfunction can present with pain, stiffness, and lack of range of motion in your neck. In more serious conditions sometimes the nerve gets pinched or irritated.

Often, mechanical neck pain can also cause headaches when the upper segments of your neck are irritated or stiff it can result in pain radiating up into your head. Our physiotherapists are trained to identify the cause of your neck pain and work with you on a treatment plan to get you back to normal again.

Symptoms: Arm pain, headaches associated with neck pain, loss of neck motion range, pinched nerve, neck pain or stiffness.

Cervical Spine & Neck Conditions

Cervical Spondylosis

As we age the disks in our necks dehydrate and shrink over time. Over time this condition will continue to worsen with age. Physiotherapy can provide pain relief and restore your quality of life.

Symptoms: Difficulty with coordination and walking, tingling in your arms and hands, or tingling in your legs and feet.

Cervical Herniated Disc

Though most commonly associated with age, this condition can also occur from a sudden and jarring motion or strain.

Symptoms: Neck pain, numbness in your neck, tingling sensation in your neck, weakness in your arm or hand.

Cervical Spinal Stenosis

Over time, the spaces within your spine will narrow and compress. This condition may put pressure on the nerves resulting in muscles weakness and numbness in the arms or hands. If pain does occur, physiotherapy can often be one of the best options for relief and for returning to normal activity again.

Symptoms: Neck pain, weakness or numbness in the arm or hand, and tingling.

Cervical Radiculopathy (Pinched Nerve)

Poor posture, having your body in one position for a long period of time, or other activities that put pressure on the nerve in the neck region will cause this condition.

Symptoms: Strong pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness.

Whiplash

Whiplash is caused from rapid back-and-forth neck motion and can be caused by car or sports accidents, falls, or other traumas.

Symptoms:  Arm pain or tingling, headaches (associated with neck pain), loss of motion range, upper back pain, neck pain or stiffness, shoulder pain or stiffness.

COVID-19 SAFETY

Easthill Physiotherapy + Acupuncture Clinic has protocols to ensure the utmost safety for our patients, team and community. We have worked hard to protect our public health during this pandemic. Medical masks are mandatory for all staff and patients to keep everyone safe, and we appreciate your commitment.

We continue to follow the guidelines and protective measures indicated by our regulatory boards and governments. Our team has also had extensive training on our new protocols, and we are all 100% committed to ensuring our patients’ safety.

This is the new normal.

All patients and staff will be screened before each visit. Unfortunately, anyone showing signs of respiratory infection will be unable to come into the clinic. We will encourage and book virtual physiotherapy appointments for those that need help but are symptomatic if a client is at greater risk or for anyone who is not comfortable coming into the clinic.

We have the highest standards for hand hygiene and cleaning. All equipment and rooms will be disinfected after each use, frequently touched surfaces will be sterilized, and personal protective equipment will be used in all appropriate situations. Patients and staff will have hand washing stations to ensure proper frequent hand hygiene.

We also understand that it is necessary to reduce the risk of transmission with physical distancing. To do this, we have installed plexiglass barriers, reduced the number of appointments available by spreading them out and designed an optimal patient flow that minimizes contact with other patients and staff before and after appointments. Our team is also committed to practicing these as measures of hand hygiene and physical distancing outside the clinic to be safe when they return to work.

Although it may seem different with the steps we need to take, the Easthill Physiotherapy + Acupuncture team is still the same! We still believe in the same values and are here to provide an extraordinary physiotherapy experience. This is not going to change. Our goal is to keep all of us healthy and happy.

Our fabulous admin team is available to book in-clinic appointments now. Or if you prefer a virtual physiotherapy visit, we can book that too. Please call us at 250-545-2922 to book an appointment or if you would like more information.
